Music and the Movies - 2 classes - Dr. Scott Stewart
Music Director and Conductor, Atlanta Youth Wind Symphony

SESSION #1 July 13

Music and the Movies:
How the Soundtracks We Love Bring Movies to Life

Music for film, television, and video games occupies a unique position as being the only performed music which (some say) is not intended to be heard!

From King Kong to A Streetcar Named Desire to Out of Africa and more, this session will explore the role of music in the cinema and how composers create artistically effective and enjoyable soundtracks.

SESSION #2 July 14

Music and the Movies:
The Legacy of Classic Hollywood Soundtracks from Robin Hood to Star Wars

The Golden Age of Hollywood produced movie classics like Gone With The Wind, The Wizard of Oz, and Citizen Kane. Music was a huge part of their success and influenced generations of composers.

This session illustrates the connections between music of cinema's Golden Age of the 1930s and the return of the Hollywood symphonic soundtrack with the music of John Williams, Howard Shore, Alan Silvestri.
